The funding for the Isle of Wight Council comes from a £20.6m grant to grow local economies by offering green travel options.

The Department of Transport has awarded investment of £450,000 to encourage more cyclists, walkers, cut emissions and support economic growth.

“Green transport cuts congestion and improves air quality. It also offers the cheapest and healthiest way for people to access jobs and education."
“The Isle of Wight’s green travel scheme will make a real difference for residents and help provide better air quality for everyone. Our £21m funding across England shows we are committed to improving lives through investment in sustainable transport.” Robert Goodwill, Transport Minister

The funding is part of the UK Government's commitment to invest over 300 million to support cycling and walking over this Parliament.
