The Co-operative Group Ltd is the world’s largest consumer co-operative with a turnover of more than £9 billion, 4.5 million members and 87,500 employees. With a very strong sustainable policy (nearly all of their electricity comes from renewable energy resources and they have targets to reduce their spend by 25% by 2012) they decided to turn their attention to utilising that energy as efficiently as possible across 4,000 retail stores and portfolios throughout the UK.
Allen and York are market leading Energy Recruitment Specialists and because of this The Co-operative Group chose to contact our dedicated Energy Group to assist them in recruiting an Energy Efficiency Manager and Energy Support Manager.

Our Energy Group Consultants took the time to discuss the various potential services that Allen and York can offer, including Executive Search, Managed Advertising and Database Search. The Co-operative Group wanted a proactive approach whilst raising their profile. It became clear therefore, that targeted advertising would be the most cost-effective and productive method for these specialist roles. A Managed Advertising Campaign with a Database Search run alongside it was recommended by our specialist Energy Recruitment Consultant Team.
Allen and York’s extensive recruitment database of energy candidates was thoroughly searched to identify energy management candidates with knowledge of HVAC, energy efficiency and experience in delivering refurbishment and new-build projects. At the same time as the database search was being carried out, Allen and York also created advertising in print and online media to attact the very best energy candidates for the position.
The response for all advertising was handled by a dedicated team in the Energy Group. All applicants and candidates identified from the database were thoroughly screened to assess their suitability against job descriptions provided. The most appropriate candidates were submitted for approval and interviews were arranged.
From the candidates interviewed the candidates with the most appropriate skills and experience were selected and offered positions.
Allen and York's personal and bespoke approach, meant that they managed the communications and negotiations of these offers to ensure the selected candidates were successfully and happily recruited in to their roles. The two successful candidates were in position within agreed deadlines and have provided The Co-operative Group with an essential resource.
