Our client is looking for a Town Planner to provide a full range of town planning services in terms of both forward planning and development control, as part of a dedicated team of planners, within the property business. You will assist in the effective and efficient management of the Property portfolio to serve the business, maximise value and minimise risk.
You will provide the planning input to the implementation of the company’s capital investment programme, and will provide a significant input to a variety of projects on a day to day basis to ensure that all the necessary planning activities are undertaken either internally or by the wider team including external consultants.
Key Accountabilities
• Town Planning advice on all types of development proposals (focusing on medium and smaller schemes), formulate & implement planning strategy, liaising with people internally and externally, to secure permitted development rights, planning permission or environmental impact assessment (EiA) screening opinions
• Organise the appointment of external consultants to provide specialist advice (eg traffic, noise, odour, landscape, heritage, planning) and formulate their brief, supervise and control the tasks they are appointed to undertake, to ensure the optimum strategy is delivered, within time and budget constraints.
• Share responsibility with external affairs to formulate and implement stakeholder/community engagement to support the successful delivery of the planning strategy
• Carry out the company's consultation responses to development plans to safeguard the asset base and promote interests to influence policy, and promote development sites.
• Identify development opportunities on the company's land holding, assess sites for development potential, and formulate/recommend/implement land use planning strategy working in tandem with operational colleagues, to bring forward development sites and maximise asset value and meet profit target
• Assess and analyse future proposals to ensure the likely planning issues are embraced within the timeframes and costs of the draft business plan
Skills / Competencies / Experience Required
• Experience in forward planning and/or development control, ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, preferably with some experience of environmental assessment, community engagement, and development potential appraisal.
• MRTPI (or eligible) and a Town Planning or related degree
• Interpersonal/good communication skills, influencing, negotiating, self motivated, well organised and able to prioritise, initiative, proactive, team worker
