Senior Urban Designer / Masterplanner
Location: Oxfordshire

Our client is looking for a Senior Urban Designer/Masterplanner in their Oxfordshire office.

The role will be to promote the practice to their clients and provide high quality design and consultation on urban design projects.

Key job responsibilities and necessary attributes:
> Be in direct contact with clients providing advice upon strategy and progress of projects and to advise them upon the potential success of a development opportunity.
> To prepare initial feasibility analysis and contextual appraisals of development opportunities and assist others undertaking similar tasks within the practice.
> To be able to clearly articulate the merits of good design.
> To promote contemporary sustainable development having regard to modern methods of construction, consequences for climate change and carbon emissions, affordable housing and transport.
> To prepare design briefs for sites and clearly show how local context influences design.
> To assist architects in interpreting urban design briefs and evaluating architectural responses to such briefs.
> To undertake and assist with master planning projects.
> Have a working knowledge of design codes and their use within the planning process.
> To assess key history associated with development opportunities.
> To assess and evaluate policy within development plans and how such policy relates to development opportunities and be aware of contemporary advice.
> To assess and evaluate Central Government Policy and guidance relating to design.
> To prepare planning application submissions including urban design assessments for development opportunities including pre-application meetings with officers of the Local Planning Authority and where relevant, preparation of design and access statements.
> Co-ordinating the work of other professionals involved in the project.
> Where relevant, careful monitoring of planning applications through the Development Control Process.
> Undertake meetings with clients to advise upon potential success of development opportunities and the progress of current projects.
> To assess Development Plan Documents with particular regard to design policies and summarise policy issues advanced by Local Authorities having regard to client requirements.
> To draft where necessary statements of case for planning appeals including preparation of urban design evidence and co-ordinating other professionals involved in any planning appeal.
> To co ordinate and promote successful public consultation exercises associated with urban design contextual reports, master plan proposals and planning application proposals or policy promotions, in line with best practice and strategies identified by Local Authorities in their Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).
> Maintain a programme of CPD in-line with the RTPI/RIBA and our client's requirements.
> To liaise regarding the preparation of Strategic Environmental Assessments(SEA) and Environment Impact Assessment(EIA) in the context of Masterplanning
> To maintain a current knowledge of relevant design issues, planning policies, working practices and procedures.
> Promote projects with minimum supervision.

The successful candidate is likely to hold membership of either the RTPI or RIBA.
