Job Title: Operations Chemist
Working together with two other Operations Chemists and under the supervision of the Site Manager, A suitably experienced candidate may also deputise for the Site Manager in his absence.
Operations Chemists are responsible for the safe receipt and identification of waste brought to site. This involves examination and analysis of packaged chemicals, e.g. in drums, boxes etc. to ensure that they correspond to the description given by customers. Bulk liquid wastes are also received, which must also be sampled and analysed before discharging into tanks.
Paperwork systems must be followed and maintained to ensure accurate tracking of the wastes.
The candidate must be willing to work in the open air in all weather conditions testing packaged and bulk chemical wastes. This can often be a dirty and uncomfortable task. The job involves a certain amount of manual handling although mechanical assistance is provided for most tasks. There may also be offsite visits to customer premises or to collect wastes.
Following full training, the candidate will be required to drive several items of mobile plant including forklift trucks. Prior experience of driving such equipment would be an advantage.
The ideal candidate should be educated to Degree standard in Chemistry or a related subject and previous experience in the waste industry would also be an advantage.
