An outstanding opportunity for a highly driven and customer orientated project/design engineer has arisen with a specialist renewable energy company. You will have a real impact on the delivery of Renewable Energy projects that act to reduce the effects of Climate Change while increasing security of energy supply.

The successful engineer will be responsible for client engineer and project management of a number of renewable generation projects in Ireland. To be involved in all the key aspects of project management, design, specification, technical advisory, valuation, implementation and operation of grid integration of renewable energy, from <1mw up to and exceeding 1gw, connected at voltage levels from 230v including 110kv. the post holder will share their time between office visiting customers sites.>The main requirements of the role include

• The ability to project manage and act as client engineer for the connection of renewable generators to the electricity system
• To be conversant with the design, specification, construction and operation of HV / MV / LV electrical networks, substations and the plant/equipment (switchgear, cables, overhead lines, transformers, protection and earthing) associated with the grid integration of renewable energy generation projects
• To be able to write, review and approve the relevant design studies and calculations (eg optimised sizing and specification of switchgear, cables, overhead lines and transformers; co-ordination of protection settings; calculation of step and touch potentials etc.) as required to achieve the grid integration of renewable energy generation projects.
• To identify, develop, and ultimately successfully negotiate the integration of innovative generation site and grid connection designs with network operators and primary generation plant manufacturers to gain the best value solutions for our clients.
• To produce technical and strategic reports as part of electrical system design studies and national regulatory / policy / standards development.
• To prepare detailed transmission and distribution plant specifications.
• To be able to conduct Design Risk Assessments / HAZOPs and co-ordinate the production of Health and Safety Files.
• To work to tight deadlines, manage multiple concurrent project tasks and demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and have a flexible disposition.
• To demonstrate excellent IT skills utilising the full range of Microsoft Office Packages.
• To demonstrate excellent skills utilising industry standard electrical system design packages
• Work closely with the management team, individual project leaders, project engineers and staff to meet and deliver client requirements
• Maintain first class client relationships
• Project Manage, lead and supervise major, technical advisory, electrical system design, T&D plant/equipment specification, project engineering and consultancy service projects and to deliver them on time and within cost constraints
• Liaise with clients to interpret requirements, develop scopes of works and budgets and support the client management team in the preparation of proposals
• Work closely with the management team to implement a programme of in-house training and personal development of staff
•Development and writing of QA standards, procedures and work instructions

You must hold an Electrical Engineering Degree as well as the following;

• A commitment to renewable energy and/or environmental issues
• Experience working in project management, electrical power engineering / electrical network system environment
• Experience in project through-life costing and reliability assessments preferred
• Project planning and management skills
• Technical advisory skills
• First class report writing, presentation and negotiation skills
• Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
• Ability to prioritise demanding workloads and pay attention to detail
