A truly unique and exciting client side opportunity with one of the UK's largest and most reputable renewable energy developers as arisen in Peterborough for an experienced and exceptional Planner to lead the planning function for the company.

The Company
Our client is a hugely successful renewable energy developer, designing, developing and installing renewable energy technologies, primarily solar, throughout the UK. They are experts at taking solar energy projects through the planning process and have successfully achieved planning consent for over 300MWp of solar farms. Their projects are highly sought after by the investment community, guaranteeing an attractive return to the landowner.

The Role of Planning Manager - Renewable Energy
As Planning Manager for the company, you have a very exceptional opportunity to be the lead Planning authority, supporting the Managing Director of Development and Senior Management Team in the development of energy projects.

You will lead the work in obtaining planning consents for renewable energy projects. You will also provide advice and support on any schemes which fail to achieve planning consent including supporting at appeal hearings and commissioning further advice and support.

This role has people management responsibility and as such you will manage a team of Project Managers and support their work in the development of planning consents. You will also, as a team leader, manage effectively the Project Managers and provide opportunities for professional development

You will be the lead on public consultation and engagement work including fronting parish council meetings and public exhibitions. You will also lead on Community funding of renewable energy including managing the relationship with the community and with the delivery organisation, ensuring that the company is at all times up to date with policy developments.

Supporting the rest of the business, you will lead the laison with the Design team on ensuring suitable schemes for submission in to planning including acting as the 'intelligent client'; as well as liaising with the Programme Manager and Disposals Manager to support the overall programme of site delivery, agreeing appropriate deadlines and liaising with the senior management team to ensure delivery to timescale.

In this role you have the chance to make your mark and influence the direction and success of the business by identifying opportunities to improve land and development processes, obtain buy in and deliver business improvement.

This role is also is an outward facing role and as such you will attend conferences, exhibitions, meetings, public meetings and industry working groups as the company's representative. Also Research and recommend business development opportunities. You will also proactively manage external consultants including agreeing reporting frameworks, commissioning, review and challenge of reports and sourcing and appointing new suppliers.

To be successful as Planning Manager you will;

  • Be a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI)
  • Have experience in delivering renewable energy developments successfully through the planning process
  • Have experience in leading and motivating a team
  • Be experienced in public engagement and consultation
  • Be knowledgeable about renewable energy developments, in particular solar
  • Have exceptional communication skills with the ability to present, engage, and develop relationships
  • Have excellent report writing skills
  • Be professional, adaptable, and proactive in every aspect
