Our client is a fast growing ICP who undertake new electrical utility connections. They are looking to recruit a Structural Substation designer to be responsible for the design and construction of substation foundations and building layouts from the design stage through to completion.  The candidate will be proactive both in the design and construction element engaging closely with all stakeholders to ensure design approval is obtained and substation construction is structurally compliant to industry standards.
 
 Responsibilities
  • Develop cost effective substation designs to DNO. IDNO and Client specifications
  • Develop cost effective pressure reduction installation to GT, IGT specifications
  • Design and construction of substation foundations, building layouts and details
  • Build and manage relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors
  • Inspect substation construction, produce reports and remedial actions required
  • Manage work flow and assign work to team members
  • Manage team quality, workload, output and report finding to Head of Design
  • Gain design approval as part of the design team process
  • Attend meetings
  • Train and support colleagues
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to colleagues
  • Work flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policies and Procedures and all relevant legislation
  • Utilise AutoCAD and other software packages 
Essential Skills and Qualifications 
  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrate high standards of written and verbal communication
  • Show good analytical, problem solving and inductive reasoning skills
  • Articulate and numerate
  • Self-motivated with an eye for detail
  • Good communicator with the ability to build relationships
  • Computer literate in AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Work on your own initiative and have the ability to perform well as part of a team 
Desirable  
  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience in an IPC
  • Knowledge of the construction industry 
  • A good level of business, environmental, safety and regulatory awareness
  • Knowledge/experience of SAGE Construct
  • IOSH
  • Current CSCS card
