Allen & York is currently looking to recruit for a Unit Head - Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring (UAE National only) on behalf Government Organization in Abu Dhabi. The role will provide overall direction and leadership to the Fisheries Management unit and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Fisheries unit, and ensure effective collation of data as well as implementation and coordination of fisheries assessment and monitoring programmes in accordance with established conservation plans to promote the better utilisation of fisheries within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Main responsibilities for this position will include:
Contribute to the development of the Marine Biodiversity division's annual divisional plan
Monitor the performance of the Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring unit and prepare periodic reports
Supervise the day-to-day operations assigned for the Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring unit to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures, and that employees' activities are performed in timely, efficient, and effective manner.
Report on a regular basis to Section Manager - Fisheries Management on the operational activities of the unit, challenges and issues faced, mitigations taken, etc. as required, to keep them informed and updated on the activities performed.
Supervise the planning, scheduling and execution of the fisheries assessment, monitoring and investigation programmes.
Conduct periodic assessment and evaluation of the ongoing programmes in the unit
Identify current state and gaps in fisheries assessment data in order to place the appropriate programmes and activities to fill those gaps and achieve significant scientific benefits.
Supervise all fisheries monitoring and investigation activities in order to ensure compliance with established priorities, standards and programme guidelines.
Lead the development of analytical tools for modelling fisheries using statistics and field sampling methods to facilitate effective monitoring and assessment activities.
Supervise research studies carried out to estimate the abundance of fish and marine resources, and analyse their population structure and dynamics to facilitate effective planning of fisheries management programmes.
Supervise the preparation of scientific papers and international journals, in collaboration with the Environmental Information Management division, in order to ensure significant scientific findings are adequately documented.
Supervise the sharing of all collected data and analysis with the Environmental Information Management Division to support the development of comprehensive databases and consolidated reports, and facilitate further enhancement of related research initiatives.
Review the reports prepared by the Assistant Scientist on fisheries related assessment, monitoring and investigation activities, and evaluate identified issues in order to recommend solutions to the Section Manager - Fisheries Management, and ensure their implementation.
Tabulate and process fisheries data, and generate annual statistical reports in accordance with defined quality standards.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to fisheries assessment, monitoring and investigation in order to facilitate flow of information and build awareness.
Participate in the development of the Fisheries Management section policies, processes and procedures technically and operationally and ensure adherence so that all requirements are fulfilled and aligned with the operations
UAE National (UAE Passport holder)
Degree holder in Fisheries/ Marine Science or any related specialization.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant field; 2 years of which in a managerial position.
