EU’s Ocean Energy Forum call for funding of grid infrastructure

The EU’s Ocean Energy Forum is calling on member states to fund the grid infrastructure required to connect at least 300MW of demonstration and pre-commercial wave and tidal capacity.

The proposal is one of a number set out in a new strategic roadmap to be published by the marine stakeholder group at next week’s Ocean Energy Europe conference in Dublin.

The aim is to reduce risks and costs associated with site selection and development, to allow industry “to concentrate on manufacturing and deploying the devices”, said Ocean Energy Europe policy director Jacopo Moccia.

The roadmap also recommends member states leverage available EU finance, such as structural funds, NER400 and the European Fund for Strategic Investment, to back 10 demonstration and pre-commercial wave and tidal projects.
