A&Y Foundation Volunteering Green Day

08 February by Miriam Heale

On Friday 5th February 2016 ALLEN & YORK took a 'Volunteer Green Day' to help support Dorset Wildlife Trust and Creative Kids UK - Two local charities which do amazing work in Dorset.

Group 1
Helped re-gravel the nesting bird islands in the lagoon at the Brownsea Island Nature Reserve for the Dorset Wildlife Trust.  We got our wadders on and shovels out and shifted about 6 tonnes of gravel across the saline lagoon!  It was REALLY hard work, but very rewarding and great fun!

A BIG thank you to Dorset Wildlife Trust for organising the day and to our mighty volunteers who braved the February weather to create an enhanced nesting environment and new home for a wealth of seabirds and waders.

Group 2
Pulled on our overalls and got out our paint brushes to decorate a new kids arts centre for Creative Kids UK, which offers free access to art & design for children in the most deprived communities in Boscombe.

We had a great time getting creative, making the windows dazzling and shifting quite a lot of rubbish!  We were pretty tied by the end of the day, but Marina and Chris returned the next day to finish off an amazing space themed mural, the middle of which will be a screen for multimedia presentations!

Thank you so much to Cary at Create Kids and Volunteer Bournemouth who helped us to organised the day!
