The UK offshore wind industry has received a well need boost as the Crown Estate approves 7GW of projects to be delivered post 2020 across the Round 3 zone, off the coast of Hornsea and East Anglia.
Under revised proposals, dubbed 'Round 3.1', large corporations such as Dong, Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables have committed to fresh developments which exceeds original allocations in the acreage.
All three companies will be kicking off their recruitment processes in due course, and the additional renewable energy jobs will be seen as a major boost to an industry in need of some long-term certainty.
“Momentum has been there in the offshore space for a while with the number of projects planned over the coming years,” said a RenewableUK spokesman.
“But these bigger projects now coming forward support the view that this is a real boom time in the sector.”
