Network Rail Partnership Invests in 10,000 new homes

27 April by Miriam Heale

Network Rail and the Homes and Communities Agency have put forward a new agreement to build up to 10,000 new houses and businesses near railway stations.

Local councils are being called on to take part in the scheme, which aims to contribute to regeneration of stations similar to that already seen at Birmingham New Street, Manchester Victoria and London King’s Cross.

The first proposals under the scheme are to build up to 2,500 new homes near York station, to remodel the station layout and carpark at Taunton and to redevelop land by Swindon station.

A Network Rail spokesperson said:  “Network Rail has been unlocking land for development for over a decade, providing space for thousands of new homes and businesses while generating income to reinvest back into the railway.
