Yesterday (27th June) Amanda Clack FRICS became the 135th RICS President.  Clack joined EY as a Partner in August 2015 as the Head of Infrastructure (Advisory) and yesterday's appointment she described as being the "pinnacle of her professional career'"

"Representing over 180,000 chartered surveyors, trainees and students from all over the world is a huge privilege and honour. I still don’t think I’ll believe it’s happened until I wear the Chain of Presidential Office for the first time".

In an interview posted on the RICS website, Clack is asked about the future for young people looking to enter a surveying career; Why should young people consider a surveying career? The interviewer asks;

"No other career is as tangible in terms of the impact it can have on the physical environment — no two days are ever the same. You get to work with some amazing people. Plus, your professional qualification is a passport allowing you to work anywhere in the world”, replies Clack

Although the UK has obviously entered a period of uncertainty following the Brexit vote, RICS stress that Britain must maintain its focus on expanding domestic housing supply and delivering major infrastructure schemes.

There is still a housing shortage within the UK and opportunities for surveyors will continue to become available.
