Following our attendance at the The RTPI Planning Convention today (28th June), the ALLEN & YORK's Planning and Built Environment team are buoyed by the positive message coming from the various speakers throughout the day.
Paul Barnard, Assistant Director of Strategic Planning and Infrastructure at Plymouth City Council, has been much praised on Twitter for their Plymouth's clear approach and planned direction.
He spoke about the value of a plan and Plymouth’s ‘Plan for Homes’ and advised other authorities not to leave it to the market to plan for housing, but instead to “seize the initiative”.
Graham Stallwood, RTPI trustee and chartered planner @GrahamStallwood on Twitter said; "Every time I hear the latest on @plymouthcc's Plan it inspires me. Positive planning to achieve the city vision and growth"
@JanetAskew RTPI Past President also Tweeted "Top tips from Plymouth for housing delivery" in support of a planned and direct approach to tackling the housing crisis.
Askew also retweeted Helen Hayes, Labour MP and former Planner, who stressed that "Planning is progressive, tool for delivery and must be inclusive of all communities" and the need for a post-Brexit strategy.
RTPI president Phil Williams introduced the convention by saying the planning profession is one that can “provide leadership, foresight and clarity” and that is what the speakers today set out to achieve today.
