Government To Invest £22m for Low-Carbon Fuel Research

30 August by Miriam Heale

The UK Government plan to invest £22m for research into low-carbon fuels derived from landfill waste.  The scheme could finance up to five new low-carbon fuel platns with 70 groups already earmarked for funding

Air and road freight travel account for enormous fuel usage and the government are looking for alternatives to enable low-carbon targets to be met in the future.

According to the Department for Transport (DfT), vehicles powered by waste could use up to 90 per cent less carbon than traditional fossil fuels.

Transport Minster Jesse Norman said;the Government wants “every new car and van in the UK to be zero emission by 2040” and that with traditional fuel consumption set to rise, “we must promote environmentally friendly alternatives.”
