Types of EIA Jobs and Salary Expectations

Careers in Environmental Impact Assessment offer a range of opportunities, from early career roles supporting environmental assessments through to senior leadership positions overseeing large and complex projects. At Allen & York, we recruit for EIA roles across environmental consultancies, infrastructure projects, energy developments and public sector organisations.

Assistant EIA Consultant

Supports environmental impact assessment projects through research, data analysis, report preparation, and coordination to help ensure developments meet environmental regulations.

Typical salary: £25,000 – £28,000 | 0–2 years’ experience

EIA Consultant

Responsible for supporting the coordination of environmental assessments, collating technical data, assisting with screening and scoping reports, and contributing to the production of Environmental Statements.

Typical salary: £28,000 – £40,000 | 2–5 years’ experience

Senior EIA Consultant

Leads the delivery of EIA projects, manages multidisciplinary technical teams, coordinates complex planning applications and maintains strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Typical salary: £40,000 – £55,000 | 5–8 years’ experience

Principal EIA Consultant / EIA Project Manager

Oversees high-profile project delivery, provides strategic environmental advice at the planning stage, manages commercial budgets and ensures compliance with relevant legislation and consent regimes.

Typical salary: £55,000 – £75,000 | 8–12 years’ experience

Associate Director of EIA / Technical Director

Provides leadership across EIA and environmental planning teams, drives business development, shapes technical strategy and manages high-level client accounts and business growth.

Typical salary: £75,000 – £95,000+ | 12+ years’ experience
