Allen & York are exclusively working on behalf of Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd a leading UK importer, manufacturer and trader of timber products sourced from around the world.  

Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd are seeking a dynamic individual with a real passion for sustainable forest management, to join their compliance team, based in Maldon Essex, you will be joining as an Assistant Environmental Compliance Manager. This role has been created to add additional capacity within the department to address the increased workload resulting from Brexit. 

Ideally you will hold a relevant BSc (MSc would be an advantage), perhaps in Forestry or Environmental Management, you will report directly to the Environmental Compliance Manager, and work closely with them on a daily basis. 

The successful applicant will have practical knowledge of working in a similar role and have an understanding of EU Timber Regulation, as the Assistant Environmental Compliance Manager you will receive on-the-job training and initially be focused entirely on achieving continued compliance with the EU Timber Regulation.  

It will be part of your role to help drive environmental improvements across the company's operations and purchasing functions.  An integral part of the role will include working closely with colleagues, while engaging with the suppliers, customers, and NGOs. 

Drawing on your experience, your rigorous attention to detail and your ability to effectively communicate, your passion for sustainable forest management will shine through. 

As the Assistant Environmental Compliance Manager, you will contribute to the maintenance of a robust due diligence system, to ensure continued compliance with EU Timber Regulations. As part of this role you will assess and mitigate risk exposure through a range of tools, including supplier auditing and scientific product testing to verify species and origin of the timber, along with managing the In-house technical expert Chain of Custody certification (FSC, PEFC etc). 

In this role you will be expected to periodically provide cover for the Environmental Compliance Manger these additional duties will include:  

  • Working closely with the Board and purchasing team to manage compliance risk  
  • Reporting to the Board of Directors  
  • Representing the company at external events and boards  
  • Interfacing with the UK Competent Authority and stakeholders
