An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and driven Ecologist to join an consultancy based in Winchester. Reporting directly to the Lead Ecologist you'll be providing ecological support to an established ecology team ensuring that developments meet objectives for sustainable development and biodiversity targets.
Main Responsibilities
- Assess and advise on proposed developments to ensure full consideration is given to ecological issues by all parties involved in the projects, in order to make sure biodiversity objectives are met. Including assessing planning applications; and assistance with Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA)
- Undertake surveys and assessments and give advice on protected species
- Provide training and briefings to other officers
- Monitor developments to ensure compliance with environmental legislation
- A degree in a relevant subject
- Full membership of CIEEM is desirable
- Experience in consultancy
- Holding (or being eligible to hold) a bat, dormouse or GCN survey licence would be advantageous
- Experience in preparing impact assessments and mitigation strategies would be desirable
- Good understanding of ecology, survey methodology and mitigation strategies
- Strong habitat management and restoration knowledge would be advantageous
- Good knowledge of UK legislation
- Project management skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office and GIS
- Current drivers licence and the ability to meet travel requirements
