We are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Environmental and Forestry position offering an opportunity to gain valuable experience in an influential and important role.
Brooks Bros (UK) Ltd are seeking a dynamic individual with a real passion for sustainable forest management to join their compliance team. Based in Maldon Essex, you will be joining on a Permanent contact in the role of Environmental Compliance Manager. You will draw on your knowledge of the forestry and timber sectors, along with your extensive understanding of the European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR) to ensure continued compliance for the company. Ideally you will hold a relevant BSc (MSc would be an advantage), perhaps in Forestry or Environmental Management and will report directly to the Managing Director.
The successful candidate will help drive environmental improvements across the company; you will manage a small team, work closely with staff across the business, engage with the suppliers, customers, NGOs and governments.
As the Environmental Compliance Manager you will be responsible for working with EUTR/UKTR along with Origin and Legality of Timber certification (OLB), Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Licenses (FLEGT), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC).
The successful applicant will have practical knowledge of working in a similar role and be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Forestry and Timber related specialist bodies and regulations. As the Environmental Compliance Manager you will work with key internal stakeholders and others on purchasing governance, while ensuring all processes comply with the UK Timber Regulation, Construction Products Regulation and the Modern Slavery Act.
This role will require you to work closely with the Quality Manager to ensure environmental compliance is successfully incorporated into company procedures. You will also act as the Chain of Custody Manager, ensuring compliance across company (FSC, PEFC and generic chain of custody) along with maintaining a robust due diligence system to ensure compliance with the EU/UK Timber Regulation, including assessing and auditing suppliers, and coordinating with external service providers.
Drawing on your experience, rigorous attention to detail and your ability to effectively communicate, your passion and analytical approach to sustainable forest management will shine through, this will aid you greatly when reviewing different source data to assess potential risks to compliance and the supply chain.
You will also act as a key point of contact for any legal compliance queries, both internally and externally while reporting to government enforcement bodies, certification schemes and trade associations and represent the company at external committees supporting wider industry improvements.
Ideally you will hold a full clean driving licence as national Travel to other office locations may be required
In return for all your hard work and dedication you will be offered a competitive salary ranging from £45,000 to £55,000 depending on industry knowledge and experience, along with additional benefits package including flexible working as well as pension, annual leave and death in service benefit.
A relocation package is available for the right candidate should they need to relocate for this role.
