Environmental Consultant- Noise and Air Quality

Location: Greater Manchester

An exciting opportunity for an ambitious Environmental/Air/Noise Consultant who is looking to build their reputation and knowledge though providing a consultancy role in respect of planning application assessments and advice. This will require you providing technical advice in respect of air quality, noise and contaminated land matters.

My client is working on a Joint Venture in partnership with a local council as part of a infrastructure project. You will be involved in may duties to include a full range of property surveying and management disciplines, full design and cost control services, extensive highways and civil engineering design capability plus Town Planning, Development Control and Policy Services.

Job Role

As a Environmental Consultant - noise and air quality, you will be part of our successful team providing our core council client with high quality, timely and technical advice.

You will also be accountable for:

  • Processing planning applications in a timely manner, producing robust reports and recommendations to achieve desired and deliverable outcomes.
  • Contributing to service improvements managing your work to ensure client KPI's are met/exceeded in terms of timeliness and quality of output, adding value wherever possible.
  • Contributing to the delivery and improvement of business management systems, procedures and processes.
  • Providing support and guidance to peers and more junior staff to distribute knowledge and ensure contemporary planning issues and legislation are cascaded and understood.
  • Supporting the growth of the team by making a positive contribution to business development, securing repeat work and applying a commercial lens to all work undertaken and behaviors.

What you will do

  • Undertake environmental consultancy responsibilities in respect of planning applications and other consultations
  • Assess and provide technical advice with regard to environmental and health impacts (noise, air quality and contaminated land) of planning applications.
  • Provide support services to local authority clients with regard to Environmental Protection matters as necessary.
  • Review and report on environmental statements including noise, air quality and remediation of contaminated sites
  • Manage and deliver geo-environmental desk study and ground investigation projects, and contaminated land regulatory services ensuring technical integrity.
  • Manage and deliver air quality and/or noise projects ensuring technical integrity.
  • Provide environmental support and advice to Urban Vision's other services and business units, including air quality, noise, contaminated land and environmental pollution related matters.
  • Assisting in the development of new business opportunities in respect of air quality, noise and contaminated land assessments and advice.
  • To undertake such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post

Skills and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • Air quality and noise measurement, assessment and control, including relevant legislation, statutory guidance and British Standards
  • Contaminated land site investigations and risk assessment.
  • Working with Planning Authorities and elected members in the areas of strategic planning and development control.
  • Minimum 5 years experience within the environmental field
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently in styles appropriate to a variety of audiences in writing and verbally in meetings and in seminar presentations.
  • Post-graduate professional experience or qualification in one, or involving two or more, earth science aspects of: Acoustics & Noise Control, Contaminated Land/Landfill Gas, Geochemistry, Air Quality
  • Ability to deliver, manage and monitor workload to ensure timescales and targets are consistently met.
  • Commitment to work with other public and private sector clients.
  • Experience in project and financial management
  • Experience of reviewing air quality, noise and contaminated land site investigation and risk assessment report
  • Good IT skills
