Environmental Planner - Carlisle

Due to strong growth a great opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Planner. You will be working in Carlisle as part of our Environment Planning Team. Managing and Co-ordinating Environmental Impact Assessments including Flood Risk. Ensuring permits and licences are in place.

Key Responsibilities:

Your key responsibilities could include but will not be limited to:

Technical and Operational Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinating environmental impact assessments;
  • Carrying out strategic environmental assessments and sustainability appraisals;
  • Producing environmental statements and associated planning documents;
  • Contributing specialist technical knowledge to EIA projects as appropriate;
  • Carrying out Preliminary Environmental Appraisals;
  • Applying for Marine Licences;
  • Applying for Environmental Permits for Flood Risk Activities;
  • Managing submission of major planning applications;
  • Demonstrating good knowledge of environmental / planning legislation;
  • Keeping up-to-date with professional developments through a structured training programme;
  • Setting an example to other team members, recognising the responsibility to train and assist others with their professional development and achieve the highest possible standards of work.

Other Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the business meeting its Business Plan and achieving its Vision;
  • Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with clients and other parties;
  • Implementing processes to comply with employment and health and safety legislation;
  • Carrying out performance appraisals (if required) in line with company procedures and competency framework;
  • Working co-operatively across functions and business units to share information and ideas.

    Essential experience/Skills
  • Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in an environmental and/or planning subject;
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organisation (IEMA / RTPI);
  • Experience in environmental / planning consultancy or equivalent;
  • Experience in environmental permitting for flood risk activities
  • Experience in marine licencing / marine planning
  • Excellent knowledge of UK environmental / planning legislation;
  • Proficient in a wide range of IT skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues;
  • Good presentation and verbal/written communication skills;
  • Able to write clear, concise, high quality reports;
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and willingness to travel;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Enthusiastic and confident approach to work; and
  • Ability to prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines

Desirable Criteria

  • The candidate should ideally also possess the following qualities:
  • Masters degree in equivalent subject;
  • Experience of using GIS and CAD;
  • Project and financial management experience;
  • Business development skills;
