Health & Safety / Fire Risk Assessor

Location: Buckinghamshire

Our Client, one of the world's largest Engineering and Construction Consultancies are looking to recruit and experienced and qualified Health & Safety / Risk Assessor to work closely with their compliance team.

This opportunity will be home based ideally from the South East and working within a multi-disciplinary team that provides consulting services in the areas of fire, disabled access, health and safety and water hygiene/legionella. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

The majority of work will consist of undertaking H&S and Fire Risk Assessments / Reviews on clients' premises which will typically include (but not be restricted to) commercial premises such as multi tenanted office premises, retail premises, retail, industrial and business parks, multi tenanted residential premises and light industrial premises. There will also be a requirement to provide Health and Safety and Fire Safety advice generally.


  • Provide an enthusiastic consultancy role through the development of proactive risk management strategies for clients.
  • Provide general health and safety and fire safety advice to clients and undertake risk assessments as required on a wide range of premises from small commercial to light industrial. Analysis of client regulatory and best practice compliance.
  • Provision of evidence supporting observations of noncompliance.
  • Make recommendations for corrective action to remedy non-compliances.
  • Write client specific policies, reports, work instructions, risk assessments and method statements for a wide range of issues.
  • Use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as required.
  • Compliance with internal business systems.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in client service and delivery.
  • Contribute positively to client proposals and business development.
  • Contribute to the development of the business by putting forward ideas, providing constructive feedback and contributing to meetings and group discussions.
  • Where necessary make recommendations for improvements in client service and delivery.
  • Further training may be provided in the disciplines of disabled access audits and water hygiene/legionella.
  • Where necessary make recommendations for improvements in client service and delivery.


  • A strong background in Consultancy and Risk Assessing, particularly in H&S and Fire.
  • NEBOSH and preferably working towards CMIOSH
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Proven experience in a consultancy environment
  • Proven health and safety and fire risk assessment background.
  • Conversant with all relevant regulations and legislation relating to H&S and Fire safety
  • Must be well organised, with good time management
  • A high energy professional capable of influencing clients at all levels
  • Analytical mind who can bring clarity to difficult situations
  • Ability to work well and continue to deliver results under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, gravitas and an ability to establish credibility quickly
  • Ability to work under own initiative without the need for direct day to day management
  • A strong team player. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Membership of the IFE is preferred.
  • Commercial awareness of pricing and profitability
  • Whilst ideally the role will involve working with clients within a geographic area the scope of the role is such that it may extend to providing consulting services on a national basis where business requirements dictate. The role can therefore involve nationwide travel and some overnight stays.
