Overview of Role:


Reporting to a Senior Modeller, you will be responsible for assisting and delivering projects and tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, aiming to exceed client expectations. You will promote and marketing all facets of our services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and to build networks within the industry. You will also focus on developing new services and innovation within modelling, alongside the senior and principal modellers, specifically in integrated 1D-2D modelling and large-scale catchment master planning.


•           Resolving technical modelling issues on projects

•           Carrying out technical reviews of hydraulic models

•           Managing components of projects, taking responsibility for own resource and potentially resource allocation of others, quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications

•           Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design

•           Providing technical input into detailed scheme design and other related water resource projects

•           Ensuring compliance with company systems of the components of the project for which you have responsibility, including drawings, reports, specifications and studies

•           Gaining awareness of commercial aspects of projects (contract, budgets invoicing, client management etc.) relating to projects for which you input into

•           Liaising with the Project Director or Manager

•           Providing input to project team, leading by example to achieve sector goals and championing a quality, innovation.

•           Assisting and participating in developing yourself and other team members to their full potential

•           Gaining experience of and being familiar and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and promoting a culture of awareness within the team

•           Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager


What you have to Offer:


We are seeking to recruit Hydraulic Modellers to be based in our Plymouth office, working within our well established Modelling team.  We’re looking for candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm for modelling and flood management, who are focused on delivering exception projects which may involve innovative modelling techniques and outcomes.  We need a team player who can effectively collaborate with other teams and disciplines in order to develop informative and highly robust outcomes. The role will require you to visit site locations throughout the UK and the role will see you liaising with our clients. To be considered, we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:



•           Degree in an appropriate analytical and / or geographically based subject (Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Engineering Hydrology)


Desirable Qualifications:

•           Master’s degree in an appropriate subject

•           Working towards Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM


Essential Experience:

•           Hydraulic modelling software (InfoWorks ICM / CS or similar)

•           3-5 Years working within UK water sector

•           Good, ideally exceptional skills in GIS database management, spatial data manipulation and map production (MapInfo / ArcGIS / QGIS)

•           Experience in flood risk management and general water network management projects

•           Excellent communication and analytical skills

•           Strong MS Excel competency

•           Good report writing skills


Desirable Experience:

•           Planning and design of UK-based flood or network upgrade schemes (e.g. sewer upsizing / storage tanks / flood bunds)

•           Practical experience of SuDS, either modelling or design

•           Experience in water infrastructure assessments, undertaking developer impact assessments, flood schemes and CSO discharge assessments.

•           Some experience of project management, specifically time / programme management

•           Awareness of the commercial aspects of project delivery
