On behalf of our client a leading FM service provider we are now recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join a key Pharmaceuticals client in the Hertfordshire area, with possible travel to other UK sites. The successful candidate will be fully responsible for the facilitation of repair, maintenance, calibration and certification of laboratory instrumentation across a Research and Development manufacturing site.

Role Summary:

  • Ensure prompt, customer focused specialist engineering support
  • Diagnose faults on complex equipment and systems
  • Plan / carry out engineering maintenance and commissioning work associated with scientific equipment and systems
  • Ensure compliance to standard operating procedures
  • Use technical knowledge to identify / source components and services
  • Create, manage and review supporting documentation
  • Advise on engineering and scientific aspects of proposed equipment
  • Support in the preparation / design of operating procedures, SOP's, INS, Change control and deviations, manuals and drawings
  • Support in maintaining the correct availability of essential spares to support the range of equipment and systems used
  • Review and update CMMS records to ensure they accurately reflect current status and maintenance plans for equipment
  • Escalate any issues or concerns that arise to the Engineering Supervisor
  • Process documentation through the Computerised Management System (CMMS)
  • Appertaining to the operation of engineering equipment and services
  • Assist in the preparation for audits
  • Perform other duties as required

Experience Required:


  • Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in engineering or equivalent experience in relevant scientific engineering
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, manufacturing/ operational environment
  • 2+ years post apprentice experience within the Laboratory Instrument Support sector
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Strong relationship management experience
  • Excellent communication / influencing skills
  • Ability to work to own initiative but team orientated
  • Strong written / verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Current / valid driving license
  • Clear understanding of a Lab Instrument Services environment


  • Pharmaceutical / Regulated working background
  • PC hardware / architecture and Communication Systems knowledge
  • EAM (CMMS) experience
