Our client are seeking a Planning Director to take over joint leadership of the Bedford planning team and further develop the office's already well established profile and build upon its very broad project portfolio.
The Bedford Office was established in 1991 and has a diverse and growing workload. This ranges from the promotion of two, substantial 'garden village' proposals to 'paragraph 55' dwellings, the promotion of large commercial developments and advising on neighbourhood plan proposals. The Office also works very closely with the London Office and combined has a team of circa 20 planners.
We are presently looking to help our client expand their team and the scope of project work and over the next year they are projecting a 10% increase in instructions, including opening a further office in the east of England
The successful candidate should be RTPI or RICS qualified and have a minimum of 10 years' professional experience. They should have some experience of managing a professional team(s) and able to provide leadership and vision. They should also be client facing, and be used to, and confident with, a business development role.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for the financial and performance planning of the Office with another Director and will also have an opportunity to develop a wider management role within the business. They will jointly represent the Bedford Office on both the 'Regional Planning Directors' Panel' and on the main company Board. It is expected that the post holder would have an opportunity to move to equity status after a qualifying period.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Development of the client base including oversight of existing client instructions and development of client opportunities;
- Managing the workloads and professional development of the planning staff and ensuring that the required standards are met;
- Joint management of the Office including client accounts, budgeting and income projections;
- Contributing to Companywide business and development strategy; and
- Accountability to the Board of Directors and Managing Director
Remuneration will be commensurate with the abilities and potential of the successful candidate and will include a competitive salary, performance linked bonus scheme, access to the Company pension scheme, health insurance and a number of other fringe benefits.
