A talented Principal Rail Engineer is required by our client a well-established professional services and engineering consultancy, who are expanding their civil engineering business. They are recruiting a qualified Chartered Engineer with proven background in the design and construction of railway infrastructure, with focus on bridges and other rail structures.

Key tasks of a Principal Rail Engineer include:

The supervision and management of work for project design teams; taking ownership in the preparation of design solutions; acting a first point of contact for customers and contractors; involvement from tender to design stages for rail projects.


·Acted as the lead for project design teams in the rail sector.

·Degree in civil engineering and be a Chartered Engineer through the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers with post graduate experience of the railway infrastructure design and construction.

·Comprehensive design experience of railway structures and their interfaces with p-way, track drainage, OLE and third rail electrification and other lineside equipment.

·Capable to make inspections, assessments and maintenance of rail bridges and other railway structures.

·Experience of structural analysis software tools, i.e. Lusas.

·Must have knowledge of Network Rail standards and quality management procedures and have experience of NWR design and technical approval processes ie. GRIP process.

·Full UK driving licence.

·Confident communicator, good written skills and eye for detail.

·Well versed in client management and fulfilling needs.

·Driven and keen to take on responsibility to advance career.

·Used to supporting junior members of the team and developing others.
