As a Principal Transport Planner you will be given the opportunity to grow and develop, with a clear path to progression along with a inclusive, friendly and supportive work environment.

You should currently hold a BSc degree in a numerate subject or an MSc in transport Planning or related subject with substantial post-qualification experience. As well as holding chartered membership of either CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE or be currently working towards chartered status of one of these bodies.

Due to your 5 to 10 years of experience within the sector you will have a strong working knowledge of development planning (transport), with proven project management skills, this will be demonstrated in your record of managing and developing client relationships.

As a Principal Consultant, you will take a leading role in managing the transport inputs to a number of development planning projects across the Country, as well as assisting senior colleagues to deliver solutions on a number of strategic and exiting development opportunities.

The experience you have gained throughout your career will demonstrate your strong analytical and communication skills, along with a creative and enthusiastic approach to problem solving. Drawing on your analytical background in conjunction with your many years' experience in transport planning and a good knowledge of wider transport planning issues, you will undertake the initial site identification and due diligence, prepare feasibility studies and support the development of masterplans, then you will prepare supporting transport documents for planning applications and post planning negotiation with local authority bodies and work to discharge conditions and prepare highway designs for implementation.

Project management, working with and coordinating with other business departments on various multi-disciplinary projects while supervising the workload and providing support to junior staff, will be second nature to you. This will all be while you are developing technical and financial proposals on new projects as well as providing specific technical leadership in your area of expertise, while keeping clients happy and engaged in the process start to end.

Your understanding and experience in transport demand and supply modelling, forecasting, and experience you have gained in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals, will compliment your knowledge of transport modelling related software packages e.g. SATURN, PARAMICS, CUBE, EMME, VISUM, VISSIM, TUBA as well as your understanding and experience of GIS software. Any experience in computer programming languages (e.g. VBA, SQL, Python) would be an advantage to you in this role.

Previous experience of project budgetary issues and the capability to deliver work to time and budget requirements, as well as the ability to communicate technical concepts and provide a level of supervision to more junior staff will shine through from your vast background in the Transport Planning sector.
