Prinicpal/Associate Director Flood Risk and Drainage

Job description

Principal / Associate Director | Flood Risk & Drainage

Location: Bristol or Leeds (Hybrid)
Salary: Excellent package + comprehensive benefits

Are you an experienced Flood Risk & Drainage professional looking for the opportunity to lead complex, high-profile projects while helping shape the future of a growing consultancy?

We're working exclusively with a highly respected, independent environmental consultancy that has built an outstanding reputation for technical excellence, innovation and collaborative working. With continued growth across its environmental disciplines, they're now looking to appoint a Principal or Associate Director to strengthen their Flood Risk & Drainage team.

This is a senior role offering the chance to take ownership of technically challenging projects across sectors including residential, renewable energy, aviation and major infrastructure, while mentoring talented colleagues and contributing to business growth.

The Role

You'll lead the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies from early feasibility through planning and detailed design. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll advise clients on flood risk constraints and opportunities, develop sustainable drainage solutions, and support the successful delivery of complex development projects.

Alongside technical leadership, you'll play an important role in project management, client relationships, bid support and developing junior members of the team.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Significant experience delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning policy, flood risk guidance and SuDS design.
  • Experience leading complex development projects and managing client relationships.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of InfoDrainage (or equivalent), AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience supporting bids and business development.

Experience with TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, FEH or river restoration would be advantageous but isn't essential.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join an employee-focused consultancy that combines technical excellence with a genuinely supportive culture. You'll work alongside recognised experts on nationally significant projects while enjoying the flexibility to balance office and home working.

The business offers:

  • Competitive salary and bonus potential.
  • Enhanced pension and private medical insurance.
  • Generous holiday allowance with the option to purchase additional leave.
  • Flexible and hybrid working.
  • Structured CPD and career development.
  • Wellbeing initiatives and employee assistance support.
  • A collaborative culture where technical quality is genuinely valued.

If you're looking for a role where you'll have the autonomy to influence projects, mentor others and help shape a growing environmental consultancy, we'd love to hear from you.
