Senior Civil Engineer

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer based at their office in Raynesway, Derby. You will provide superior quality engineering design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.

You will report directly to the Design Manager and duties/responsibilities of this role will include;

  • Production of civil layouts and general arrangements which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed, maintained, commissioned and demolished safely
  • Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the discipline
  • Resource planning and responsibility for project delivery within budget and programme
  • Coordination of designs with other disciplines and resources both internal, external and at their design offices internationally.
  • Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts
  • Provide supervision of civil design staff
  • Provide support to help develop staff
  • Ensure designs take account of environmental issues
  • Ensure that design takes full regard of all health and safety requirements
  • Assist in improving processes and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

  • Good UK water and wastewater non-infrastructure experience
  • Understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment
  • Have experience of coordinating members of staff in designing civil aspects of water and wastewater treatment plants
  • Proven track record for developing outline designs from given preferred option to a standard suitable for pricing
  • Proven personal track record for developing and delivering detail designs to site for construction. This must include civil design construction drawings
  • Extensive, personal experience of coordinating civil design work with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, process)
  • Extensive, personal experience of directing civil draughtsmen and structural designers to produce construction deliverables
  • Experience of working effectively with engineers and draughtsmen in remote design offices
  • Evidence of ability to monitor and moderate civil design activities across simultaneous, multiple projects
  • Evidence of having instigated improvement of design procedures and processes
  • Evidence of lateral thinking and application of engineering principles to produce novel, cost effective or rationalised solutions to unusual problems
  • Evidence of working within a BIM environment and with 3D site and structure models
  • Ability to carry out structural design an advantage but not a requirement
  • Evidence of mentoring of junior staff
  • Proactive self-starter
  • Design background but with some site and/or contractor experience
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered Civil (or Structural) Engineer (or equivalent) is desirable
  • Civil Engineering honours degree (or equivalent) is essential
