Senior Hydrologist Consultant

My client is expanding its hydrology and water resources capability in response to a growing pipeline in the UK and International. The projects range in scale from regional water balance studies to site-specific water resource evaluations and environmental flow assessments. In order to meet this demand, we are recruiting experienced engineering hydrologists and water resource planners to fill a number of senior consultant positions in our Integrated Water Management team across a number of UK locations.

To be considered suitable for this role, candidates should have a minimum of 5 to 7 years consultancy experience including at least 3 years' experience of working on International projects with a significant surface water component. My client provide environmental consultancy services across a diverse range of business sectors and geographies quite often in data-sparse environments so candidates must be confident (not afraid to go back to hydrological basics), resourceful and able to tackle all aspects of hydrology - from specifying and undertaking hydrological fieldwork to:

  • The appraisal of hydrometric data quality/ data infilling and transposition
  • The analysis of rainfall patterns and flow characteristics using historic and simulated time series data;
  • Environmental flow assessment;
  • Application of hydrological simulation tools to demonstrate the impact of current and future development plans and climate change scenarios on river flows, water quality and ecosystem services.

While the role is based in the UK, short periods of project-based international travel will be required. Those applying should be able to demonstrate previous experience of using at least one of the following catchment scale rainfall-runoff simulation / catchment planning tools: HEC-HMS (HEC-GeoHMS), SWAT, GSHHA, WEAP, GoldSim. Experience of integrated surface water and groundwater modelling is considered an advantage but we are keen to hear from all those with practical experience of using hydrological simulation tools in a water resource planning and risk assessment context.
