About the role:

My client are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to work with our Landscape Planning team on a diverse portfolio of projects. We require someone with sound experience in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and/or Landscape/Seascape Character Assessment; and excellent field work, report writing and verbal communication skills, combined with an appetite for diverse projects.

Our landscape planning and assessment team is a market leader in Landscape Character Assessment and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment. It has a particular interest in the development of methodologies and the application of characterisation to strategic and local planning, including the production of landscape management strategies, design guidance and boundary reviews for designated landscapes. We work in both urban and rural contexts.

Work would typically include:

  • Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) and sensitivity/ capacity studies: our recent commissions include assessments for East Cheshire, Dartmoor, Sevenoaks and Bracknell Forest, as well as specific studies for seascape.
  • Assessment and management of protected landscapes: our recent projects include looking at the extension to the Lake District National Park and AONB monitoring.
  • Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) and associated mitigation/ design: our recent projects include LVIAs for residential development, railways, university campuses, mineral extraction and renewable energy.
  • Planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change: our recent projects include green infrastructure strategies across London.

Involved in all stages of project development, from tendering through to completion, you will be expected to participate in all aspects of the work, including assisting with generation of new business, project management and mentoring of more junior staff. The post is expected to be based in London or Bristol office.

You will be part of a friendly, award winning team of Landscape Architects and Landscape Managers, Urban Designers, Planners and Ecologists who are committed to delivering high quality professional work, with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable solutions.

We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this role, including part time working (minimum 30 hours per week), core hours and a degree of location flexibility.

About you:

You will be an experienced Landscape Architect or Landscape Planner, preferably with consolidated experience practicing in a consultancy team, and preferably with around 5-10 years of relevant experience. You will hold a degree and / or a post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline (for example Landscape Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography). Chartered membership of the Landscape Institute is not essential.

You will have excellent report writing skills and be able to communicate ideas (including through photography, sketches, plans etc.) to produce visually engaging reports.

You will have knowledge and understanding of producing visual representations/ photomontages, and skills in using relevant software (e.g. sketchup, AutoCAD, 3D Studio, Photoshop) would be an advantage, but are not essential.

An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines is important, as is the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients.

You will hold a valid driving licence.
