Job description
Allen & York are excited to be partnering exclusively with United Group - a South East European telecommunications and media business - as they look to recruit a Sustainability Director to join them and drive forward their sustainability and ESG agenda. Joining the business at a time of growth and investment, there is strong support for ESG, which is at the core of United Group's agenda.
The role offers the opportunity to choose your preferred location between Amsterdam or one of their other operating countries and with the operating language being English, you will have excellent business level written and spoken English.
This is a fantastic opening for an ambitious, driven, dedicated sustainability professional who's previously designed and implemented a sustainability strategy, with credibility and gravitas, to step up and really make an impact, so if you'd like to find out more read on for a description of the role and how to apply.
THE ROLE:
This is a new role within the organisation and it's driven by United Group's desire and commitment to sustainability. You will be 'the' technical expert on sustainability and will represent the business at industry events and conferences so you need to have a strong technical knowledge of developing and implementing a net zero carbon strategy, reducing emissions in line with Scope 1 and 2, identifying climate related risks, setting targets for and reporting against Science Based Targets (SBT’s), and knowing what needs to be done. You'll be responsible for looking at issues ranging from waste management, circular economy principles, a move to renewable energy and product sustainability. You'll also lead on the production and publication of the annual sustainability report. A high level of internal and external stakeholder engagement will be required, so your communication skills will be excellent and you'll be adept at liaising at various levels, from the CEO down and creating a compelling narrative around sustainability initiatives. Indeed, there is an opportunity to have direct communication with the CEO and to set and change the strategy, so you'll need to be confident and assured in your technical ability.
In addition, you'll coordinate the Environmental and Energy Management Systems in accordance with ISO14001 and ISO50001 so experience of having done this previously would be advantageous and adding your expertise to certification and operational procedures. You'll have experience of juggling commercial pressures, with different operating companies at different stages in their sustainability journeys, so a pragmatic and commercial attitude is required together with your ability to lead and influence in a matrix setting with dotted line management.
If you have experience of the telecommunications and media sector, that would be advantageous but it's not essential. What is important is your hands on approach, 'can-do' attitude, an ability to think and operate strategically. And what is key is your ability to influence the Board and other key stakeholders within the business and having a level of gravitas and credibility and you will be required to demonstrate where you've achieved this in previous roles at interview stage.
If you'd like to find out more, send your CV to kpereira@allen-york.com. Please note that all applications will be reviewed but unfortunately, we regret that we won't be able to respond to everyone.
