Senior Consultant / Consultant depending on experience. Needs to be able to operate remote from line management and have credibility with rail customers.


  1. Provide systems engineering consultancy (advisor / change instigator / deliverer) services to clients in the rail industry. Key activities to be carried out are:
  • Systems Engineering Strategy development
  • Systems Engineer process development
  • Systems Engineering support to projects e.g. Requirements development, Acceptance planning and delivery, Interface management, Systems modelling
  1. Act as conduit between client organisations and the rest of FNC services. Identify client's true needs or desires and link them to best FNC group to deliver solutions (or other organisation if that is correct solution?)
  2. High level (within client structure, not high level as in detail) management of client's System Engineering issues and resolution plans if required by client. This may include taking up positions with the client organisation for mid to long term projects.


Person Profile:

  • Graduate in engineering discipline or prolonged experience of delivering Systems Engineering to major projects
  • Experience of delivery of support to clients in the Rail industry, including:
    • Train Control / Signalling;
    • Rolling Stock;
    • Telecommunications;
    • Track infrastructure; or
  • Experience of delivering Systems Engineering to:
    • New design projects
    • Upgrade or replacement programmes
    • All phases of a project's lifecycle


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Has delivered System Engineering to rail customers
  • Ability to see big picture and identify actual root cause of problems not the external perception / symptoms
  • Problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills (both in terms of client management and also dealing with difficult issues within client organisations - change management is cause of unhappiness!)
