Technical Director / Associate Director Civil Engineer - London

A rare opportunity has arisen for an Associate Director / Technical Director Civil Engineer to work in either Reading or London. Your role will be to act as technical design manager, providing outline and detailed designs across multiple infrastructure projects, including but not limited: Drainage design, General Infrastructure design, Waste Infrastructure design, Waste Water and Water Treatment Design (including pumping stations, reservoirs, tanks)

You will need to have a strong base of technical skills, with excellent organisational and communication skills gained in either a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy environment who now want to enhance and diversify these skills within a growing organisation that will support their future development.

This position will provide an excellent opportunity to work on one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Europe and will allow you to grow a team to deliver this work as well as a wider portfolio of projects across a diverse range of sectors.

Key Duties:

  • Grow, develop and lead a team of engineers to support different on-going projects
  • Provide leadership and technical assurance/review for all deliverables produced by the team
  • Develop capabilities and experience of team in order to sell services to other UK/international major infrastructure projects
  • Work collaboratively with other consultants and colleagues to the benefit of the ongoing programmes and frameworks
  • Seek opportunities to deliver engineering services/projects to other sectors

Skills/ Experience


  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Member of a relevant professional body such as ICE
  • Experience in the Waste Infrastructure Sector, Industry Sector or Utilities Sector
  • Experience in Project Management and Project Direction skills including: change management, risk assessment, cost control/management and liaising with internal/external project stakeholders
  • Experience of leading, developing and growing an engineering team
  • Worked extensively within a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy
  • Experience of working on major infrastructure projects
  • Substantial consultancy experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable technical review/assurance skills
  • Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and Principal Designer role
  • Experience of Project Design Management
  • Experience in technical aspects in bidding including proactive role in client interface


  • Multi-sector and international experience: as airports or Major Waste Infrastructures.
  • Experience of working at Heathrow Airport
  • Experience of working within a design and build environment, as either contractor or consultant
  • Worked alongside flood modelling specialists
  • Working in an NEC Contract environment
