Allen & York is currently looking to recruit for a Assistant Scientist Fisheries (UAE National only) on behalf Government Organization in Abu Dhabi. The role will participate in conducting assessment, monitoring and investigation activities on fish and fisheries in the Emirate using systematic and scientifically sound methodologies in order to ensure comprehensive and reliable information is collected and analysed to improve knowledge base and inform management and conservation efforts on fisheries within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Follow the day-to-day operations set by the Unit Head Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring in the Marine Biodiversity division to ensure continuity of work and the delivery of effective and high quality outputs.
Report on a regular basis to the Unit Head Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring on the operational activities, challenges and issues faced, mitigations taken, etc. as required, to keep them informed and updated on the activities performed.
Support the Unit Head Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring in conducting fisheries monitoring and investigation activities to collect data to support the management and conservation of fish resources. Document and maintain data from monitoring and investigation activities to ensure adequate and comprehensive data is maintained for analyses activities, and ensure data is collected in line with set priorities, standards and guidelines.
Conduct research and analysis to assess the impact of fisheries activities on fish resources in Abu Dhabi.
Assist in field and lab work, and research on fish population dynamics and life history of fish and marine species including collecting and analysing specimens and recording on fish habitats.
Assist in studies on the responsiveness of fish populations to fishing and environmental pressures, collect data and biological samples from the field and participate in laboratory preparation and processing of samples in accordance with established procedures, in order to facilitate the effective assessment and monitoring of fisheries management activities.
Assist Fisheries Statistician in developing fisheries statistical reports to contribute to the monitoring and management of the fisheries of Abu Dhabi.
Enter, analyse and quality assure collected data to inform fisheries management priorities, practices and regulations.
Assist the Unit Head Fisheries in preparing reports to present fisheries related assessment, monitoring and investigation activities, key findings, and evaluate identified issues in order to inform effective decision making, and ensure timely and effective reporting.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders on matters related to fisheries assessment, monitoring and investigation in order to facilitate flow of information and build awareness.
Follow all relevant section policies, processes, procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Support the creation of a change management culture through taking a 'hands-on' and 'can-do' approach to EAD's new business changes, participating rapidly to the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high performance behaviours.
Comply with all relevant EHS guidelines, policies and procedures, report incidents and hazards in a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to support in protecting the environment and ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
Perform additional duties commensurate with the current role, as and when requested by the Unit Head Fisheries Investigation and Monitoring.
UAE National (UAE Passport holder)
Bachelor's Degree in Fisheries Biology/Marine Science or any related specialization.
1 to 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
