Commercial Waste Technician - Water
Role objective
To ensure disposal routes for Trade effluent are in accordance with Statutory Duty within a geographical area. To provide front line protection for company assets and reputation from risks associated with commercial waste and unauthorised discharges. Assist in the collection of data and trade effluent samples to enable billing and control of customers within a geographical area. Provide front line assistance working with Service Delivery teams to protect the assets and reputation of the company from pollution incidents arising from non-domestic discharges into foul or surface sewer systems. Undertake risk assessments of non-domestic customer sites to ensure compliance with trade effluent permits and charging conditions. Provide technical support for Service Delivery teams.
Key accountabilities

  • Collection, interpretation of data as directed to allow correct permitting, control and charging for Trade effluent and associated discharges in a geographical area o Effective monitoring and collect of samples for trade effluent as directed by sampling programme to facilitate charging and control
  • Collection of volumetric data to allow for timely charging for trade effluent discharges
  • Formulate and agree with customers the effective mechanisms to accurately establish trade effluent quality and quantity conditions including robust billing calculation methodology o Protect company assets and reputation by proactive management and enforcement of trade effluent permit conditions Provide effective response to protect the company’s assets and reputation by responding effectively to foul and surface water incidents including identifying source, mitigating impact, and collection of evidence to instigate legal action if appropriate
  • Assist in establishing effective contingency planning for Incident management for nominated customers in a geographical area
  • Participation in standby o Networks understanding / development
  • Experience of the practical application of environment and legislation relating to networks, trade effluent and customer
  • Qualification in a scientific or environmental discipline to A level standard o Practical experience of waste water pollution prevention and control
  • Basic knowledge of sewerage or sewage treatment and sludge processes
  • Basic knowledge and experience of health & safety regulations, and practices o Working as part of high performing team
  • Experience of working to deadlines o Competent IT skills
