Our clients are seeking a Director to lead a team dedicated to working with/guiding community groups on planning and development matters and to ‘undertake neighbourhood’ projects.


The company was established to provide a one-stop-shop for assistance and advice in those town planning matters which affect local communities. The Co is staffed by a small group of town planners and they specialise in advising on local matters and issues – whether these are triggered by a specific proposed development in your neighbourhood, or because your community wants to work proactively in shaping the future of its built environment.

Candidates should be qualified Town Planners or similar and ideally hold membership of the RTPI or equivalent. Membership of the Neighbourhood Planning Independent Examiner Panel would be an advantage, however more important is the desire to want to develop the function and be at the ‘cutting edge’ of what increasingly will become a key aspect of future planning in the UK.


Candidates therefore should be commercial but also able to communicate with organisations and individuals and have a clear vision of the role and function of the service offered. This will include also community liaison and engagement at various levels.

The Director will occupy a lead role within the company and will be tasked with:

  • Establishing links with neighbourhood and community groups across the country
  • Preparing Neighbourhood Plans, Neighbourhood Development Orders and representing these groups on wide range of planning issues.
  • The post holder may also be required to work alongside colleagues from across the company group on a wide range of projects.
  • Show key skills in working with neighbourhood groups gained through experience and training such as; the ability to convey complex planning issues in a succinct way and to undertake engaging public consultation.

The successful candidate should be a skilled project manager and communicator and have a good level of experience in working with neighbourhood and community groups in preparing Neighbourhood Plans and ideally will have taken a plan through to adoption.


The Director should be able to act independently and be confident in the promotion of the service to the target groups as well as working alongside and directing a team of independent professionals.


A full driving licence is essential.
