Great Opportunity - Health & Safety Officer/Coordinator role - North West - £25-29k + Car/Allowance

This is an exciting opportunity for a H&S Coordinator/Officer to develop and grow further key skills within a fast paced multi utilities environment. You will be working for a multi utility organisation based in the North West with projects varying nationally in location, reporting directly to the H&S Manager and working closely with the H&S team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the H&S Manager in the development & implementation of policies & procedures
  • Assist in the development of the Health & Safety Management System in accordance with OHSAS 18001
  • Monitor standards, processes, communications, training & systems to ensure a safe workplace without risk to health.
  • Carry out site safety inspections & audits producing informative reports
  • Assist the H&S Team in the production of method statements & risk assessments
  • Advise & support all employees of their statutory duties within their areas of responsibility
  • Maintain & co-ordinate all training requirements companywide including CITB levy & submission requirements
  • Work closely with site personnel & the H&S Manager to investigate accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences & near misses, identifying root causes & implementing recommendations for continual improvement
  • Assist in the collation of evidence in accordance with associated external verifiers (ISO; NERS; CHAS etc)
  • Assist the team in the review of current procedures, policies, safety documents (SSOW) & system manuals
  • Continually review & update COSHH assessments
  • Assist the H&S Manager in maintaining the Legal Compliance Register in line with industry requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous utilities experience is essential in at least one of the following: Gas, Water, Elec
  • A good working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations
  • Experience managing or supporting in a H&S function
  • Minimum NEBOSH Gen certificate or equivalent
  • Driving licence, willing to undertake scheduled business travel nationally
  • ISO 14001 & OHAS 18001 system experience
  • Previous training experience as trainer or in a strong supporting role would be an advantage
  • Able to work in a standalone role & as a member of the team
  • Previous knowledge of WIRS, NERS, GIRS would be an advantage
