I am looking for a talented HPLC Specialist/ Field Service Engineer who has experience with Waters and Agilent instrumentation to join a forward thinking organisation with great career development opportunities. You must be technically engineering orientated and able to service, installation, breakdown, repair and calibration of a wide range of sophisticated medical laboratory diagnostics and life science instrumentation. This role will primarily be based in Cambridge.


Role Summary:

  • Work alongside scientists to ensure all elements of lab equipment support are meeting requirements and specifications
  • Ensure prompt, flexible, customer focused specialist engineering support whilst maintaining compliance with statutory, regulatory and engineering standards
  • Diagnose faults on complex equipment and systems utilizing the multi -disciplinary support internal and external to the team to produce a satisfactory solution
  • Plan & carry out engineering maintenance and commissioning work associated with scientific equipment and systems in a safe, cost effective manner to ensure minimum business disruption
  • Develop and run test plans in conjunction with vendor and/or scientists- interface with customers for requirements, testing and training
  • Provide expertise in teaching robotic platforms and configuring associated systems (e.g. plate readers)
  • Use technical knowledge to identify and source components and services
  • Create, manage and review supporting documentation e.g. service reports
  • Support users in the preparation/design of new systems, operating procedures, development of client methods to run on the robotic systems, SOPs, Change Control and the deviation, manuals and drawings. Provide training to users where necessary
  • Manage the availability of essential spares to support the range of equipment and systems used within the manufacturing facilities in a cost effective manner
  • Support contract management in the set-up, renewal and budget of contracts
  • Monitor the performance of the scientific equipment and systems using Key Performance Indicators to instigate improvements and influence changes
  • Support to Management Team to ensure all activities are completed
  • Act as an ambassador, ensuring a first class service is delivered at all times
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of industry application trends and promote new equipment opportunities to customers where relevant


Experience Required:

  • Technical Background - ideally background in a BSc degree in a Chemistry/Scientific/Engineering/IT discipline or HNC/HND
  • Career experience as an HPLC Engineer/Specialist
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, operational environment
  • Experience in repair and service in some or most of the following; Agilent/HP, Waters/Alliance/AcQuity, Shimadzu, Dionex and Thermo instrumentation
  • PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Strong relationship management and excellent communication skills/influencing skills
  • Ability to work to own initiative but team orientated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Robust and assertive attitude towards achieving results and motivating team members
