Our client, a global design, engineering and management consultancy, have an exciting opportunity for a brilliant Principal Civil Engineer to help build and develop a team to work on a wide portfolio of projects.
Reporting to the Technical Director, you will provide technical support into assigned projects ensuring successful delivery of station Civil / Structural designs within a rail environment, assuming the role and responsibilities of a CRE as required.
You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of the company's services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and to build networks within the industry.
Experience of acting as Civils CRE on rail projects with a bias/focus on station buildings, footbridges and platforms
Considerable post-graduate experience, including supervising aspects of a project of significant scale, application of standards
Excellent motivation, influencing, people management and delegation skills
Ability to think in an innovative and entrepreneurial manner with good understanding of commercial aspects of a project
Experience of delivering Design and Build projects is essential
Steel design experience is essential
Outstanding communication skills and demonstrable presentation skills
Passionate about engineering excellence and demonstrate a track record of mentoring graduates
You will possess a desire to grasp new business opportunities and utilise modern computer techniques in your day-to-day work
Rail experience for this role is essential with focus on rail bridge design
Network Rail project experience would be highly beneficial
Hands-on design experience and use of industry software
Relevant engineering Civil or Structural Engineering degree in or related engineering background preferred
Post-graduate qualifications an advantage
Chartered Engineer (MICE or MIStructE)
Experience of acting as Civils CRE on rail projects
Experience in team leading and developing a team
Excellent communication skills
Experience of BIM is an advantage
Provide input into the sector strategy/ business plans, as required, and contributing towards its achievement
Communicate with team to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with, sector/discipline business plans
Proactively manage selected projects (or components of projects), take responsibility for resource allocation, manage subcontractors, manage the production of analysis and design (including drawings and reports), ensure the integrity of the overall design (in collaboration with other design disciplines), quality assurance and client feedback
Liaise with the Project Manager or Director and the client to keep informed of all developments, changes/modifications associated with the project
Identify opportunities and drive implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components
Gain a good understanding of the background of the client's business and industry to facilitate building effective and enduring relationships and consolidating both company and personal credibility in the industry
Provide leadership, direction and technical advice to project team members, taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential, lead by example to achieve sector/divisional goals and champion a quality, innovative and entrepreneurial culture
Be familiar and compliant with relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness
Perform other duties as required.
