Responsibilities

  • We are looking for a Principal Consultant/Engineer to provide engineering and environmental consultancy expertise, and technical review, support of flood and coastal risk projects for the Scottish office and the UK.
  • Reporting directly to the Associate Director, the role is expected to contribute to the delivery of increased turnover within public and private sector markets in Scotland.
  • A key aspect of the role will be to contribute to the growth and development of the water's edge and fluvial and coastal business in Scotland and across the UK.
  • Excel in project management, project direction, and technical review across the Water UK Edinburgh portfolio with an expected fee earning utilisation of 70%;
  • Competent to manage projects up to values of £5m;
  • Provide leadership across commercial, contractual and management activities;
  • Provide expert witness, construction management/supervision and contract administration expertise;
  • Contribute to regional business development including with our other business line staff with a particular emphasis on major projects, private sector business, contractors and frameworks;
  • Bring expertise and market knowledge to generate sales in both the public and private sectors with a focus within Scotland;
  • Maintain and build on relationships with new and existing clients;
  • Direct the delivery of the SEPA flood risk management consultancy framework;
  • Actively develop and promote excellence in the technical quality of our designs and deliverables across the team;
  • Lead proposals and other tender activity;
  • Bring expertise and market knowledge to generate sales in both the public and private sectors with a focus in Scotland;
  • Support the development of the water's edge and fluvial and coastal business;
  • Support the growth and development of the team;
  • Promote the team internally and externally;
  • Provide leadership across commercial, contractual and management activities;
  • Be flexible to travel around a number of UK and international locations.

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer via ICE or CIWEM or a Chartered Scientist with CIWEM with significant post-qualification experience
  • Knowledge and practical experience of Scottish policy and procedures
  • Working knowledge and experience of NEC3 contract management
  • Knowledge and practical experience of civil engineering industry and environmental procedures and best practice
  • Excellent commercial understanding and technical track record
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
