Principal Environmental Permitting Consultant
An exciting opportunity to work within a leading environmental consultancy to support the Waste and Resource Management Team, There specialism in Environmental Permitting.The Waste & Resource Management Team carries out a wide range of work, the bulk of which is connected with preparing planning applications (including Environmental Impact Assessments) for waste and minerals operations.
They manage applications for Environmental Permits, and advising Waste Collection Authorities. Other work includes the production of waste chapters for Environmental Statements, Site Waste Management Plans, Site Waste Strategies, commercial
feasibility studies, due diligence and expert witness evidence for legal cases.
They have the expertise to provide specialist waste input to Construction Environmental Management Plans, Materials Management Plans and
Environmental Management Systems. They have expertise in specialist areas such as anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis/gasification and electrical goods
manufacture and recycling, and have published articles in the waste industry press.
We work for a wide range of clients spanning central government, local authorities and private companies.
One of your key responsibilities will be for Environmental Permit applications for waste management facilities (including transfers, variations and surrenders) and industrial processes.
This could include landfill, recycling, advanced thermal treatment, transfer and treatment facilities as well as mining waste and quarry restoration.
You will prepare and assist with risk/impact assessments, permit options appraisals, Environmental Management Systems (preparation and audit), waste classification/analysis, due diligence including with public inquiries and expert
witness work for more senior grades.
You will prepare proposals and tenders for new work and be involved with business development, client contact, market research and you will attend client meetings.
Whilst your work will predominantly be office-based, you may be required to work on site, or from other offices or clients' premises as required by the project. You may very occasionally be required to work away from home for periods of time.
You will have financial management of projects, including budgeting, invoicing and employment of internal and external specialists as appropriate and required.
You will demonstrate a strong understanding of the Environmental Permitting Regulations for England and Wales (and other relevant legislation), proven through a track record of working in the waste and/or minerals industries.
Familiarity with methods and technologies employed in waste management would be an advantage. You will have a degree in a relevant discipline and full membership of CIWM, IEMA or similar would be an advantage.
The role will also require a full UK driving licence.
