A talented Principal Structural Engineer is highly sought by our client, an established and growing professional services and engineering consultancy. This role sits within their existing bridges and tunnels team forming part of their civil engineering sector. We are particularly looking for someone with a solid postgrad background, who has gained Chartered Engineer status and has experience of the design and construction of heavy civil engineering structures.

Responsibilities include:

·You will lead project design teams specialising in bridges and tunnels and take ownership of tasks and activities including the preparation of structural designs for major civil engineering projects.

·You will lead and coach teams of Engineers and Technicians from junior level upwards.

·You will act as the first point of contact for customers and stakeholders.

·You will have managed financial and technical elements for projects.

Essential skills:

·Degree in civil engineering, with Chartered Engineer status.

·Proven post graduate experience in the design of bridges or tunnels within the road and/or rail sector.

·Experience in two or more of the following: reinforced concrete or pre-stressed concrete bridges, steel bridges, cut and cover tunnels or immersed tunnels, underground station structures or large earth retaining structures.

·Working knowledge of structural analysis software tools i.e. Lusas.

·Working knowledge DMRB requirements and/or NWR standards and quality management procedures. Highways England, local authority or NWR design and technical approval processes.

·Full UK driving licence.

Other attributes:

·Used to working with contractors on design and build projects.

·Involvement of the maintenance of road or rail bridges and structures.

·A team player from a multi-disciplinary environment, able to use initiative and work well under pressure.

·Proficient and confident communicator, with good written skills and an eye for detail.

·Driven by success and keen to learn and expand on existing skills.

·Coaching skills and the readiness to support and develop junior/graduate structural engineers.
