Our client offers integrated development, engineering, construction and O&M services for utility-scale offshore renewable energy projects

The primary responsibility of the Project Engineer - Cables is, working under the direction, support and guidance of the Project Manager Cables, to carry out cables project related work and to deliver a consistent high quality level of output.

  • Working closely with other departments
  • Communication with group departments such as Group Engineering and Technical
  • Regular contact with senior members within the offshore department
  • Communication with external contractors and manufacturers


  • Project manage elements of submarine and land cable projects
  • Provide assistance to the project development teams with regards to identifying submarine cable landing sites
  • Provide assistance to the Senior Project Manager - Surveys with regards to cable route design and engineering
  • Prepare ITT responses and associated documents including procedures, specifications and scopes of work
  • Assess manufacturer's / installer's ITT responses and proposals in terms of scope of services offered, competence and technical compliance
  • Be responsible for elements of contracts for the procurement, manufacturing and installation phases
  • Provide assistance to the Electrical Engineer with the technical design requirements of cables and accessories
  • Manage the technical documentation requirements for cable procurement, test, commissioning and installation
  • Manage and action technical queries during the detailed design, protection and installation phases
  • Undertake visits as necessary to manufacturing facilities, vessels and construction sites for inspection, test, approval and progress meetings
  • Work with other parts of the project team to ensure the efficient implementation of project interfaces (foundations, electrical system design, SCADA, control systems, operation and maintenance, consents compliance, etc)


  • A degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or relevant other subject
  • Good knowledge of submarine and land cable systems design, procurement and installation
  • Knowledge of different cable lay techniques and equipment and their optimum selection
  • Knowledge of the procurement and installation stages
  • Knowledge of relevant HSE legislation in the UK and its implementation in construction-based projects
  • Knowledge of the risks that need to be considered when planning a cable project
  • Experience working within the marine cable sector
  • Experience working within the offshore construction environment
