Our client is a leading Renewable Energy company who offer integrated services to the Offshore Wind sector.

They are currently looking to recruit a Project Engineer to join their expanding team.


  • Proactively identify engineering issues and risks to be addressed
  • Ensuring Engineering activities are completed in a safe, timely and quality manner
  • Creating & managing project or package programmes to identify and schedule engineering input
  • Hold Design Responsibility as an approver of Designs
  • Perform CDM-Designer and Principal Designer duties
  • Calling and holding Design Reviews & Design Risk Assessments
  • Provide the necessary engineering and construction information to inform scoping, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and planning applications
  • Identify project design drivers and develop project designs to optimise the outcome.
  • Carry out technical analyses
  • Presenting of engineering progress to project team and management reporting
  • Identifying and implementing areas of process improvement and capability development
  • Supervision of engineering activities across a range of packages
  • Approval of calculations, reports and drawings
  • Review and technical approval of project changes
  • Resolving technical disagreements between different parties, internal and external
  • Management of resource & delivery of work packages
  • Estimating resource requirements and budgets
  • Support the assessment and procurement of technical equipment and products
  • Support package, contract and project managers as requested
  • Identify and realise business opportunities in consultancy and contacting. This will include maintaining the company's public image, writing and negotiating proposals.

The engineering issues to be considered may include:

  • Wind turbines
  • Wind turbine seabed foundations
  • Subsea MV & HV cables
  • Offshore substations: electrical & structural aspects
  • Marine operations
  • Substations up to 400kV with National Grid connection
  • Control and SCADA systems
  • Site investigations and geotechnology
  • Wind farm techno-economics
  • Wind farm layout, yield & revenue
  • Instrumentation & met masts
  • Environmental

The role may at times require supporting other business units or working on other, non-offshore wind, projects on occasion as workload requires.


  • A good understanding of technical and contractual interfaces
  • Knowledge of the design and development of offshore wind farms, including related transmission infrastructure
  • Knowledge of consenting processes for large infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of infrastructure financing and techno-economic modelling
  • An understanding of the "client engineer" role in a multi-contract project environment
  • An understanding of CDM and other relevant legislation


  • An ability to appreciate multiple points of view and exercise technical judgement
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, external stakeholders and consultants
  • An appreciation of the importance of design control and document management / project governance
  • Familiarity with contractual documents such as scopes of work, functional specifications and technical specifications
  • Ability to manage own workload and meet demanding timescales on a number of potentially simultaneous projects
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to react positively to the varying challenges of construction projects
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • The ability to prioritise between multiple activities and risks
  • A self-starting nature
  • The ability to select and manage subcontractors and consultants
  • Budget estimation & control
  • An ability to create and manage complex work programmes with appropriate software tools
  • Identification and development of business opportunities
  • Flexibility to deal with varied projects
  • A current UK driving licence


  • Experience of large construction projects
  • Experience of design, construction, commissioning or operation in the offshore wind industry
  • Contract management experience
  • Experience of resource and budgetary management
  • Full lifecycle project experience
  • Business Development experience
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment
  • Offshore working experience (desirable)


  • Degree qualification in electrical, marine, structural, mechanical or other relevant engineering discipline
