Our client are seeking to recruit a Senior Planner or Associate with a minimum of 3 or 5 years' experience in a public or private sector background, within the Company's Strategic Planning Research Unit. The position will be based in our new Sheffield City Centre Offices and will undertake work across a wide geographic area.
Candidates need to be qualified Town Planners or similar and ideally hold membership of the RTPI or equivalent. They should have a sound background in strategic planning / planning policy and be sufficiently numerate coupled with practical experience of using Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis in a planning environment. The post holder will work closely with the Directors of the SPRU on a range of strategic and smaller specialist projects.
This is a new post and would particularly suit a planner with an interest and talent for strategic planning wishing to further their career by working on a diverse range of projects across the UK.
The Strategic Planning Research Unit, is a specialist team within the Group and provides clients with support and assistance in the following areas:
Housing demand and need including Strategic Housing Market Assessments
Housing Supply including 5 year housing land supply assessments
Employment land demand and supply
Retail assessments and retail impact statements
Public Sector commissions
Attendance at Local Plan Hearings
Expert Witness at Planning Inquiries
Bespoke research commissions
The Senior Planner will occupy an important role within SPRU and will be tasked with work appropriate to their experience and skill in the preparation and collection of data and analysis focussed upon Local Plan examinations and planning appeals and inquiries. The post holder may also be required to work alongside colleagues from across the company on a wide range of projects.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities include:
- Working to the direction of senior members of SPRU and report accordingly;
- Tasks set will vary according to circumstances. These will range from personal responsibility for individual projects; to the completion of discreet tasks as directed as part of the wider professional team.
The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced Town Planner, and will have the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and be able to convey complex planning issues in a succinct way. They should also be IT literate with good skills in word processing, database management and spreadsheets; with a particular emphasis on statistical analysis.
The successful candidate will also be able to manage competing demands on their time and to prioritise tasks accordingly; experience or a good understanding in project management would be beneficial.
A full driving licence is desirable.
