Securing optimal grid connections and designing and supporting implementation of electrical infrastructure is key to Project delivery. Grid impacts the profitability and timing of projects and electrical infrastructure impacts the profitability and is also critical in achieving timely energisation.
Key Accountabilities
The Grid Engineer has responsibility to deliver grid, electrical design and construction support services to meet the safety, quality, and cost and programme requirements of the project teams. The primary accountabilities performed by the Grid Engineer are:
Continuously strive to adopt and develop lean processes that deliver project objectives and reduce waste within the project delivery teams and wider organisation
Add value and reduce costs (DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX) for projects ensuring project viability on a subsidy free basis post RO availability through efficient working, careful scoping, procurement and innovative engineering and design solutions
Secure necessary grid agreementsNegotiate grid technical requirements and preparation of contract documentsGrid company relationship management
Substation and collection system electrical equipment sizing calculations and specifications and drawings
Delivery of specialist electrical engineering:Earthing/grounding design
Grid code compliance design solutions and specialist studies
Co-ordination of design interfacesTechnical management of electrical contractors designs and equipment scope
Attend equipment FAT's and site installation/testing of electrical equipmentDeliver grid compliance
Support the Project manager in the preparation of subcontract specifications
Knowledge
Knowledge of power systems 33/132kV or above in a power generation environment.
Knowledge of grid technical connection requirements and commercial policies
Understanding of project requirements and priorities
Skills
Ability to suggest alternative (more costs effective or timely) grid connection solutions and to negotiate with external grid companies.
Commercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutions
Presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences - written and verbal
Attention to detail during preparation and review of design deliverables
Experience
Experience in the installation, testing, commissioning and operation of power generation systems and other electrical engineering works
Qualifications
Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or related subject.
