Head of Carbon Removals, One Carbon World
Remote UK
Allen & York are delighted to be working with One Carbon World, they are a carbon neutral not-for-profit organisation, selected as an observer organisation by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), and a global resource partner of the Climate Neutral Now Initiative.
They are seeking a Head of Carbon Removals to continue to support and develop their offering on road to net zero.
The role
The position will be varied and duties include:
- Develop science-based targets: Collaborate with organisations to establish ambitious, credible, and verifiable greenhouse gas reduction and carbon removal targets in line with current scientific knowledge and industry standards.
- Analyse data: Collect, analyse, and interpret data related to greenhouse gas emissions, carbon removals, and sustainability metrics to identify areas of improvement and target setting.
- Conduct research: Stay updated with the latest scientific research, industry trends, and regulations related to climate change mitigation and sustainability practices. Supporting the continued development of the SBTi's technical tools and guidance documents, including sectoral methodologies (such as FLAG and Carbon Removals)
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental or Energy Economics, Environmental Policy, Supply Chain Sustainability or related area required
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong understanding of climate change science, greenhouse gas accounting standards, and sustainability principles
- Excellent understanding of sustainability issues in a corporate environment
- Ability to work with teams and in different cultural contexts and virtual team structures
- Strong analytical research skills -ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, both orally and in writing, with fluency in English
- Proficient in data analysis and numerical modelling using tools like Microsoft Excel, Python, R, or similar software
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex scientific information to a non-technical audience
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and frameworks such as the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines, and global sustainability reporting standards like GRI or CDP..
