Job description
Allen & York are delighted to be partnering with a commercial organisation who operate on the River Thames for the benefit of customers and stakeholders as they look to hire a Head of Sustainability and Environment. The senior leadership role is one of seven 'Heads of' and will report into the director of Sustainable Operations.
You will be joining a purpose driven organisation who pride themselves on the level of environmental sustainability progress and who are all striving to achieve the same goal so there's a great culture and a key element of this role is internal and external stakeholder engagement.
This role may suit people who are working in the construction sector, involved in large infrastructure projects or maybe another transport sector such as rail, where you'll be familiar working with different stakeholders and managing relationships. If you have a marine background that will be beneficial but it's not essential. What you do need is a level of commerciality, given that the business is a commercial organisation and an appreciation of this when putting business cases together and speaking to senior members is important.
It would be beneficial if you have worked with government departments and politicians and be comfortable liaising at senior board level as well as with as well as collaborating with a variety of departments within the organisation. It goes without saying that your advocacy and communication skills will be second to none and in addition, your team management skills will come into their own as you lead a Team of three sustainability professionals and a budget.
Whilst you will have strong technical knowledge and be credible from a technical perspective, you don't need to be an expert in a particular area as there are subject matter experts within the business that you can lean on.
What is important that you are able to work autonomously, have a 'can-do' attitude, be resilient and adaptable. Your ability to engage, partner and collaborate with other businesses and organisations on the Thames will also be required and is an important feature of the role. Taking very much a strategic role, you will be able to look both internally and externally at the issues facing the organisation and adapt the strategy accordingly.
Based in Kent on the River Thames, it's likely you'll be located in South London as you will be expected to be in the office three to four days a week.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward thinking organisation which isn't restricted by red tape or bureaucracy and working with a dedicated team of professionals. So, if you'd like to find out more, call Katie on 01202 888986 ext 207.
